Will you owe taxes for 2009 yet still want to be able to receive any future federal stimulus payments as a fast and convenient direct deposit to your account instead of having to wait 8 weeks for a check? Then you cannot use Turbotax to prepare and submit your taxes because it prevents you from entering your account info into 1040 line 73d for direct deposits if the program determines that you owe any taxes. The IRS requires your account information be included on line 73d if you want to be able to receive any future direct deposit funds from them even though you are making a direct debit payment. This happened to me during the last federal stimulus payment and I was outraged that Turbotax does not allow you to input your account info anyway. The program actually fills the line 73d account field with all "XXX's", so in order to comply with IRS guidelines you must print out your return and literally use white-out to cover up the "XXX's" and write in your account info! This glaring omission has not been addressed in this year's Turbotax.

Would you prefer to let the IRS calculate any potential penalties and fees you may have incurred on your 2009 return, giving you the opportunity to negotiate with them and make a payment later? Then you cannot use Turbotax to prepare and submit your taxes because the program insists on self-imposing all potential penalties on your return and there is no way to delete or blank those line items. Why would anyone prefer to impose a penalty on themselves in anticipation of a possible IRS penalty that may never happen anyway? Rest assured, the IRS will send you a notice and bill you if necessary!

Both of these significant design flaws exist in Turbotax, and for this reason I am returning the software to Amazon as unacceptable. Even worse, if you are using the Mac version of Turbotax then you do not the ability to manually change any field and override the program. Even though the Windows version does allow you to do this, it then forces you to print and file anyway rather than efile, even if you are simply adding your account info on line 73d for possible future stimulus payments to be direct deposited!

Even aside from all the numerous almost daily updates and fixes that are coming so thick and fast that I wonder whether the program will ever be complete enough to use to file my taxes anyway, not to mention the constant reminders upon startup (that cannot be turned off) to "register" your software so they can bug you with further offers, these design flaws should be a red flag to anyone who wants more control over their tax return and situation.
